Cloud Solutions Architect
Designs the large-scale cloud infrastructure that businesses run their entire operations on.
Cloud solutions architects design how a company's systems live in the cloud — deciding how services talk to each other, how data flows securely, and how everything scales when traffic spikes without costing a fortune. It's a senior technical role that requires seeing the whole system at once: security, cost, performance, and reliability all pulling in different directions.
Much of the job is advisory, working with engineering teams to make sure a new system is built on solid architectural footing rather than something that will need a costly rewrite in a year. Architects also spend real time on cost optimization, since cloud bills can balloon quickly without deliberate design choices.
As more enterprises migrate legacy systems to the cloud and adopt multi-cloud strategies, demand for architects who can navigate that complexity remains very strong, and the role commands some of the highest salaries in technical individual-contributor tracks.
